There's hardly a single Keplan that hasn't heard of the pilot Cyri Mallinek. As kindhearted as he is brave, Cyri was a soldier in the Keplan solar war and now serves as a cargo pilot, training the next generation of Keplan aviators -- including his starstruck protege, Kell. While he loves them dearly and sees them like a son, Cyri worries endlessly about them, as a recent crash of theirs has proven them unreliable in the cockpit. But after Kell has up and disappeared with priceless cargo in tow, Cyri wonders if all of his worrying is somehow the cause of this.

TRIVIA

• Cyri has a bad case of arthritis from years of work. He often uses it as an excuse to get Kell to learn new skills.
• Cyri's coat has gone through years of wear and tear. He actually sewed the patches on himself; the one at the bottom is a starmap of the goddess planets and their moons.
• He doesn't like mentions of the war or any sort of political commentary about it.
• Cyri likes listening to new music but he has a soft spot for the tunes he grew up with. As a result, he raised Kell on almost exclusively old music.
• He doesn't often miss Jhone. He gave up on being homesick long ago.
